Honeywell 757 at Phoenix Sky Harbor
July 22, 2018



I visited Sky Harbor in the morning of July 22, 2018 to photograph the Honeywell 757 engine testbed departing for the Experimental Aircraft Association airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Honeywell Boeing 757-225 N757HW engine testbed has a TPE331-14 turboprop engine installed on its test pylon. A spinner and shark's mouth and eyes inspired by the P-40s of the Flying Tigers have been addded to the nacelle..

It first flew on February 4, 1983. Its construction number is 22194. It was delivered to Eastern Airlines as N504EA on February 28, 1983. It was withdrawn from use at McCarren Airport, Nevada in January 1991. Airtours International Airways registered it as G-JALC on February 1, 1995. Airtours International Airways changed its name to MyTravel Airways on May 1, 2002. Honeywell International Incorporated gave it its current registration on October 4, 2005. It was flown to Pinal Airpark for painting on October 24, 2005. It made its first flight with three engines on December 20, 2008.

Honeywell Convair 580 N580HW was built in 1952. It was the secnd Convair 340 built. Its constructin nnumber is 2. It was delivered to United Airlines as N73102 on September 2, 1952. Frontier Airlines acquired it on August 9, 1966 and converted it to a Convair 580 by installing a pair of Allison 501-D13D turbo-prop engines on December 11, 1966. Gem State Airlines acquired it on May 16, 1979 and registered it as N116GS in September 1979. Gem State was renamed Golden Gate Airlines on January 16, 1980. Aspen Airways acquired it in Feruary 1984 and registered it as N113AP in August 1984. Renown Aviation Incorporated acquired it on March 25, 1991. Terry Cedar acquired it on December 4, 1991. Allied Signal acquired it on January 28, 1992 and registered it as N580AS in November 1992. Honeywell International Incorporated acquired it on Februar 28, 2000 and registered it as N580HW on December 7, 2010.

Frontier Airbus A321-211W N711FR Powder the Polar Bear first flew on June 21, 2016. Its construction number is 7184. It was delivered to Frontier on June 28, 2016.

Alaska Boeing 737-990ER N494AS first flew on January 27, 2016. Its construction number is 41729. It was delivered to Alaska on February 12, 2016.
